Type of House: Brand new, single storey SIL home for three high needs NDIS participants in wheelchairs.  Each resident has their own bedroom and bathroom, as well as an additional bedroom and bathroom for the support workers.  The Home boasts 2 living spaces, an accessible kitchen, a large laundry room, 2 outdoor spaces and a 2 car garage.

Smart Home Budget : Full automation including all lights, automated doors, automated blinds, garage door, door locks, sensors, wired control relay to integrate Home Automation system & climate control. Plus cognitive support, & assistive technology assessment, recommendation, implementation, training and maintenance - $45 - 50k

Who Lives Here: 3 friends with Cerebral Palsy, intellectual disabilities and one whom is non-verbal.  Marty, Nick and Luke are all in wheelchairs and have very different needs and passions.

What was important to the residents and their families: 

• Security and Safety eg:  code access for support workers

• Autonomy eg:  make calls, find out their schedules, control the lights, and control their entertainment systems without asking for help

• Saving on energy bills eg: automated blinds that block the western sun, climate control and lighting

• Freedom of access eg:  automated doors that open with a button

• Ongoing support eg:  being able to call YSL for help with any of the technology

• Ease of use eg:  each resident is familiar with a different systems (Apple, Google & Alexa), so the automation must be compatible and accessible by all of them
